14th Edition of “Source India – Electronics Supply Chain”2025

Chennai, 18th February 2025 — The 14th edition of Source India Electronics Supply Chain 2025 commenced today at the Chennai Trade Centresignaling a pivotal moment for India’s rapidly growing electronics industry. Organized by the Electronics Industries Association of India (ELCINA), this prestigious event brings together over 150 exhibitors, industry leaders, and 3000-4000 delegates and visitors to advance India’s Electronics Supply Chain and drive sustained growth in the sector.

With consistent and strong support since 2009 from the Ministry of Industries, Tamil Nadu, Source India has grown into a robust platform that connects businesses across the Electronics System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM)ecosystem. The event’s focus this year is on “Enhancing the Electronics Supply Chain: Catalyzing Value Addition for a Resilient Electronics Sector”, with participation by overseas companies from Taiwan, Singapore, Russia and Japan.

India’s electronics industry has seen remarkable growthwith its output rising from USD 37 billion in FY 2015-16 to over USD 115 billion in FY 2023-24. Exports have surged to approximately USD 29 billion in FY 2023-24, contributing to the creation of nearly 2 million jobs within industry. However, India’s electronics market still constitutes a limited 4% share of the global market, valued at USD 4.3 trillion. This is dominated by countries such as ChinaTaiwan, South Korea, Japan and USA. To become globally competitive, India must localize high-tech component manufacturing, enhance R&Dcapabilities, and form strategic partnerships with global technology leaders.

Global Value Chains (GVCs) play a crucial role in modern manufacturing, facilitating international collaboration across design, production, and distribution. GVCs account for 70% of global trade, with electronics and semiconductor industries at the forefront. Currently, 75% of India’s electronics exports are dependent on GVCs making us susceptible to global market forces. As India seeks to expand its footprint in the electronics market, it is projected that by FY 2030, the electronics manufacturing sector could rise to an aspirational value of USD 500 billion, comprising USD 350 billion in finished goods and USD 150 billion in components manufacturing. This expansion is expected to generate 5.5 to 6 million jobs and can happen if we expand exports to USD 240 billion, with domestic value addition surpassing 35%.

The Chief Guest, Dr. TRB RajaaHon’ble Industry Minister of Tamil Nadu, shared his vision for the state and the broader electronics sector. He said, “Our pride in Tamil Nadu’selectronics manufacturing sector lies not only in the speed at which it is scaling up, but also in how we are consistently maintaining high-quality output. We are now capable of Zero Defect Manufacturing at a zero-parts-per-billion scale in many segments, and we are working to make that the standard, moving from the current standard of zero-defects-per-million.

The sector is also a shining example of how the state’s economic growth is inclusive, with women workforce participation rising to 70-80% in some of our electronics factories.

The government is working towards increasing Tamil Nadu’s electronics output to US$ 100 billion from the current US$ 12 billion. Source India is an important part of this journey, and I hope it evolves into a global expo, facilitating the all-round development and growth of the electronics sector, not only in Tamil Nadu but across the world.”

Dr. Sasikumar Gendham, President of ELCINA, emphasized the importance of this milestone: “Source India is more than just an exhibition—it is a critical platform for collaboration, innovation, and growth. As India’s electronics industry continues to soar, with projections to reach US$ 500 billion by 2030, Source India plays a pivotal role in driving the success of this sector. Tamil Nadu, has excelled in building a robust manufacturing base and the ESDM sector is a shining example in the state with a target of US$ 100 Bn. ELCINA is committed to continue supporting the industry’s transformation and advancing India’s position as a global electronics manufacturing hub.”

Mr Atul LallVice Chairman & MD, Dixon Technologies Ltd and Past President ELCINAcommented on the urgent need for focus on technology development and manufacturing of electronic components and modules. As per ELCINA estimates, a US$ 500 Bn industry by 2030 will require US$ 300 Bn of critical inputs including US$ 100 Bn of Semiconductors, $130 Bn of non semiconductor components, mechanics and batteries and balance US$ 70Bn of Modules. In addition to semiconductors, India needs deep focus on all other components and modules, which are lower hanging fruit and can galvanisethe sector quickly even as the India Semiconductor Mission gains foothold.

Over two days Source India 2025 is facilitating over 1,500 B2B meetings scheduled between manufacturers, suppliers, and buyers, making the Buyer-Seller Platform a unique initiative facilitating increased domestic value addition and sourcing. The Exhibition is hosting 150+ booths showcasing materials, components, assemblies and equipment, 4 Vendor Development Meets hosted by top companies and 35+ Speakers in the Conference on the theme “Enhancing the Electronics Supply Chain.”

ELCINA has also introduced the Start-Up Showcase this year, where innovative start-ups from the electronics and manufacturing sectors are presenting their groundbreaking solutions. The MSH-ELCINA Design & Manufacturing Start-Up Challenge was launched to provide a platform for start-ups to engage with key industry stakeholders and showcase their capabilities to potential investors and corporate partners.

ELCINA Vision for ESDM Sector: As India aims to establish itself as a global leader in electronics manufacturing, a strategic focus is essential on scaling production across key sectors, including component manufacturing in SMD, multilayer/HDI PCBs, passive components, semiconductors, and modules etc., while diversifying into emerging areas like wearables, IoT devices, and automotive electronics. To support this growth, ELCINA has called for targeted fiscal, regulatory, and infrastructure interventions with focus on incentivizing manufacturing of components, parts, raw materials and capital goods. To strengthen the eco-system, there is further need to incentivize R&D, rationalize tariffs, ensure skill development and technology transfers. The government and industry must invest in component-specific clusters and incentivize the entire value chain of Components.

Source India will continue tomorrow with panel discussions on the Components Ecosystem, with special attention given to Semiconductors and Special Materials. In addition, B2B meetings, ESDM startup presentations, and product showcases in the exhibition will take place, further solidifying Source India’s role as a key catalyst for innovation and business growth in India’s electronics sector.
