Chennai, 18 February 2026: The Directorate of Sports, Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS), successfully organized the 35th Dr. K.C.G. Verghese Memorial Inter-University Basketball Tournament for Men and Women at the Air Jordan Basketball Complex, Bay Range Campus, Chennai. Instituted in memory of Dr. K.C.G. Verghese, Founder Chairman of HITS, the tournament aims to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and identify emerging basketball talent.
The tournament featured 20 university teams, including 12 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams, showcasing exceptional skill, resilience, and competitive spirit throughout the three-day event.
Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Chancellor, HITS, congratulated the players for their outstanding performances. Dr. Ashok George Verghese, Pro-Chancellor, appreciated the efforts of the athletes, coaches, and the organizing team for conducting a high-quality tournament.
The Valedictory Ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Mrs. Renjini Peter, Chief Office Superintendent, Southern Railway and Indian International Basketball Player. Distinguished guests included Mr. Jayasankar Menon, Former Captain – Indian Basketball Team & Asian All-Star (1997); Dr. Vikas Misra, Vice Chancellor, HITS; Mr. Abraham Varghese, Sports Advisor, HITS; and Dr. J. David Mathew, Dean of Sports, HITS.
Prizes worth ₹2 lakhs were distributed to the winning teams.
