Chennai , November 24,2005 :A unique talent show for differently abled children and for the lesser privileged children from homes was organised by the Rotary Club Of Madras T.Nagar in Raja Annamalai Mandram on Tuesday, NOV 22nd. A huge no of 1,400 children and 350 caretakers participated in this carnival like contest where they enthralled the audience with their amazing talents in singing , dancing and acting. It was heartening to see the children perform with great enthusiasm and joy to meaningfully conceived dances and skits.The kids and their teachers were all well taken care of with hearty breakfast, lunch and snacks throughout the day. Jumping castle as well as the mehendi and tattoo corners excited them all and they were all treated with goodies to eat like popcorn, candy and gifts ( school bags and stationery for kids and travel bags to the teachers and caretakers)to take back home with them. Drawing and painting competitions were conducted by the Inner Wheel club of CHENNAI PRESIDENCY . The prizes for this competition was given away by Actor Shyam Ganesh.
DG Rtn.Dr. Nandakumar and the District First Lady Rtn. Dr Sumedha Nandakumar inaugurated the programme and lauded Rotary club of Madras T.Nagar for successfully conducting this mega event for the past three decades, this being the thirtieth year. President of RCMT Rtn. Meenakshi Perikaruppan, welcomed the participating schools and their teachers and organised the event in the most seamless manner. To celebrate the 30th year we associated with Rotaract club of Saveetha medical college. We had 4 sports medicine doctors do a physiotherapy session for the children and also addressed their problems individually. As a safety measure an emergency medicine doctor along with an ambulance was also placed at the venue.
6 Rotaract doctors and 8 Technicians from allied health sciences were present to help the children.
We believe in recognising talent and honouring gifted hardworking people. Under this category we honoured two special people for their exceptional vocational excellence. They were Ms. Jyothikalai, a talented musician with multiple disabilities ( visually and intellectually challenged child) and recipient of award from the President of India was recognised by RCMT conferring her with the ‘Beacon Of Light’ award.
Mrs. Ambal, a physically disabled ( lacks a hand below the elbow)woman who qualified herself in accounting and works with passion for the organisation V-Sesh which helps people with disabilities find jobs was conferred with the award ‘The Alchemist’ .
Veteran Tamil movie Actor and director Bhagyaraj was the chief guest for the valedictory and praised the performances of the children and the sincere effort of their teachers and gave away the awards for the best performers from each school. Medals and trophies were given to the winners and runners up in all the categories the Dist. Rotaract chairman Rtn. Karhirvel Ganapathiappan.
This talent show celebrates inclusion and diversity by recognising the challenges faced by these kids to live normally like others and show them as role models in life. Rota Talent Contest of RCMT ensures to bring a smile on each of the kid’s faces who attend the event.
