Chennai:
In the quiet village of Kanjampatti, nestled in the coconut-rich region of Pollachi, M. Sundar Raj’s journey as a farmer is a shining example of how passion, resilience, and timely support from initiatives like Marico’s Parachute Kalpavriksha Foundation (PKF) can transform lives and livelihoods.
Fifteen years ago, Sundar Raj turned to coconut farming for stability, and today, his 15-acre farm stands as a testament to his perseverance. “Every tree on my farm is like my own child,” he says with pride. “For merely watering them every day, they have sustained my entire family.”
His days are filled with purpose, surrounded by swaying palms that bring him peace. “Not a single day feels like work when you create and sustain life,” he reflects. Among his cherished traditions is Maatu Pongal, a festival that honors the sacred bond between farmers, nature, and cattle. “It reminds us to be grateful for the earth and all that sustains us,” he shares.
“Farming is not just a livelihood but a source of pride—it sustains life and, with perseverance, can be incredibly rewarding,” says Sundar Raj, urging the younger generation to embrace modern farming. He highlights the impact of Marico’s Parachute Kalpavriksha Foundation (PKF), whose CSR initiatives have, for eight years, provided expert guidance, enabling farmers to become self-reliant and digitally empowered. “With the right support, farming can be a fulfilling and sustainable livelihood,” he affirms. For Sundar Raj, farming is not just survival—it is fulfillment. “I have built a life of independence, close to nature, with my family by my side. There’s no greater reward than that,” he says. Through devotion, patience, and innovation, Sundar Raj has created a legacy—one that will inspire generations to come.
