Coimbatore Aalayam Welfare Trust Chairman Chandrasekar is elected as the President of the Tamil Nadu Paralympic Association, a state body of the National Paralympic Committee of India and assumed office on Thursday.
The Paralympic Games are held for differently able people. People with organ removal, visually impaired, and cerebral palsy are allowed to participate in this international event.
Aalayam Welfare Trust organized variety of competitions, including Kabaddi, Volleyball, Football, Tennis, Cricket, Skating and swimming at district and state levels. Since 1998, the trust has been implementing various training programmes for athletes in Coimbatore. Due to continuous service of the Trust Sports wing, Engineer Chandrasekar elected as State President of the Paralympic Association.
“The Paralympic Games have been held since 1948. More than 1000 competitors from 100 countries are participating in the international event. The tournament will take place in Tokyo in August and September. Eligible athletes will be selected on behalf of our country. Mariappan from Tamil Nadu won the Paralympic gold in the high jump in 2016 and added pride to our country. We expect players like him to achieve and win medals for our country.” said Chandrasekar, State President of the Paralympic Association
“The Paralympic Committee is planning to provide intensive training to the player at free of cost. The Paralympics are a good opportunity for those who want to achieve in sports. The Association is ready to provide assistance to athletes with disabilities” he added.
Indian Paralympic Committee President Deepa Malik, Secretary Gur Charan Singh, Coach Satyanarayanan and Western Region IG K. Periaiah were congratulated Chandrasekar on this occasion.
