Chennai, June 14, 2025: ALERT, an NGO with a vision to enable the emergency response eco system to assure basic first response during the Golden Hour and driven by the goal given for it by the former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam who said, “Train one in every family in emergency care”, has been diligently training the common man across India in the last 19 years. Headquartered in Chennai, ALERT is an invited member of the acute care action network of the World Health Organization and is part of the core committee formed by Govt.of India to build a framework for “First Aid for the Community” along with WHO and AIIMS.
Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Tamil Nadu State Branch strives to be ‘On the Side of Humanity’ every day with their seven fundamental principles of Red Cross, Humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality.
The MoU exchange ceremony was held today at the Head office of the Indian Red Cross Society (TN Branch) in Chennai. The events were graced by key representatives from both organizations – Mr. V M Muralidharan – Chairman of ALERT, Ms. Kala Balasundaram- Founder Trustee and Mr. Rajesh R. Trivedi-Co-Founder & Managing Trustee; Justice M Jaichandran – vice president and Chairman of IRCS TN branch, Mr. Vedavyas – General secretary- IRCS TN branch.
The agreement marks a significant step toward collaborative efforts in delivering impactful training programs focused on first aid and emergency response. During the event dignitaries and representatives from both organizations shared their thoughts on the importance of the partnership and its expected impact.
Sharing his thoughts, Justice M Jaichandran, Vice president and Chairman of IRCS TN branch said: “We are proud to partner with ALERT in this meaningful initiative. First aid training and emergency response awareness are essential in building a safer, more prepared society.“
Speaking during the occasion, Mr. V M Muralidharan, Chairman – ALERT said, “We are honoured to partner with the Indian Red Cross Society, TN Branch that is known for their yeoman community service. We look forward to this partnership in specially empowering the youth across colleges to save precious lives.”
Mr. Vedavyas – General secretary- IRCS TN branch emphasized: “Through this collaboration, we aim to reach wider communities and equip more individuals with lifesaving skills. This MoU is a step toward creating a culture of safety and responsibility.”
The joint programs in first aid and emergency response will be taken to students in colleges through the ALERT Golden Army Clubs, Youth Red Cross (YRC) and Junior Red Cross (JRC) across Tamilnadu apart from training people in the corporates and other deserving sections of the communities from all walks of life such as auto drivers, homemakers etc. A joint certificate will be provided at the end of the training.
This MOU signifies a shared commitment between IRCS and ALERT to strengthen community resilience through structured first aid training and emergency response preparedness in Tamilnadu. Together, both organizations will work towards empowering individuals with life-saving skills, creating safer and more responsive communities.
