Apollo Cancer Centers and Apollo Specialty Hospitals, Vanagaram, hosted “Pedal Pink”Cyclothon in Tiruvallur to Promote   Breast Cancer Awareness

Thiruvallur, October 26 2024:  Apollo Cancer Centres, along with Apollo Specialty Hospitals, Vanagaram, hosted “Pedal Pink,” a breast cancer awareness cyclothon in Tiruvallur today.  The cyclothon was flagged off by Hon’ble Minister of Minorities Welfare & Non Resident Tamils Welfare, Tamil Nadu – Thiru. S. M. Nasar along with Thiru. Chandran, MLA, Tiruttani & West District Secretary – Thiruvallur, Thiru P. Pandiyan,EX- Chairman – Tiruvallur Municipality, Thiru C.V. Ravichandran, Vice Chairman – Tiruvallur Municipality, in the presence of Rtn. PHF. H. Jaya Prakash, President Rotary Club of Tiruvallur, Dr. Suresh S, Senior Consultant, HOD – Medical Oncology, Apollo Cancer Centers, Vanagaram, Dr. S.  Gauthaman, Senior Consultant, Surgical Oncology, Apollo Cancer Centers, Vanagaram Dr. Harish Kumar K, Consultant, Radiation Oncology, Apollo Cancer Centers, Vanagaram, Dr. Madhupriya RGS, Senior Consultant, Surgical Oncology, Apollo Cancer Centers, Vanagaram. 

Speaking to the media Thiru. S. M. Nasar, Hon’ble Minister of Minorities Welfare & Non Resident Tamils Welfare, Tamil Nadu said, “Raising awareness about breast cancer is not only a health issue but a community responsibility. Through the ‘Pedal Pink’ cyclothon, we aim to encourage every woman to prioritize her health and empower families to support one another. Early detection can save lives, and I am proud to stand with Apollo Cancer Centres and the people of Tiruvallur in spreading this critical message of prevention and care.”

The “Pedal Pink” cyclothon is part of the #TalkPink campaign by Apollo Cancer Centers, which aims to nurture open conversations about breast health and encourage routine breast self-examinations.

The 5km cyclothon was flagged off from SP Office Main Ground, Tiruvallur and concluded at RKB hospital, Tiruvallur.  Over 200 participants including residents of Tiruvallur participated to show their support for breast cancer awareness, reinforcing the need for community involvement in healthcare initiatives.

Dr. Suresh S, Senior Consultant, HOD – Medical Oncology, Apollo Cancer Centers, Vanagaram, said, “As healthcare professionals, we constantly emphasize the importance of early detection, when it comes to any type of cancer and through initiatives like the ‘Pedal Pink’ cyclothon, we aim to spread the message to the broader community. We are proud to see the support and enthusiasm for this cause, which can save countless lives.”

Dr. Madhupriya RGS, Senior Consultant, Surgical Oncology, Apollo Cancer Centers, Vanagaram said, “Breast cancer awareness is not just about educating women; it’s about empowering them to take charge of their health. Events like ‘Pedal Pink’ remind us that regular physical activity like walking and cycling along with early detection through breast self-examination and regular screenings can make a significant difference in the fight against breast cancer.”

Objective of ‘Pedal Pink’ was to promote awareness on early detection and propel action for breast cancer screening, empowering women to prioritize their health. The event was supported by Tiruvallur Trekkers, Rotary Club of Tiruvallur and RKB Multispecialty Hospital.  As part of #TalkPink campaign, Apollo Cancer Centers, Vanagaram strives to encourage physical activity while spreading an important message on breast cancer awareness amongst the community. 

#TalkPink is an innitiative by Apollo Cancer Centres an ongoing effort to raise awareness for breast cancer. The idea behind this initiative is to foster an environment where women feel comfortable discussing breast health openly, thus reducing fear and stigma. It emphasizes on early detection and encourages women to notice any changes in their breast health. Through such #TalkPink activations, Apollo Cancer Centres continues to actively engage with the public in creating awareness and enabling millions to ‘Win Over Cancer’.
