Birds of Paradise – an exhibition of theme-based art quilts

Quilt India Foundation [QIF] established in 2018, has completed seven years of bringing the fine art of quilt making to the Indian public.  With the first India International quilt show in 2019, the foundation has curated more than 30 shows in Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Jaipur, New Delhi, Pondicherry, Coimbatore and Bengaluru.  And 3 shows in Pietermaritzburg, Durban [South Africa] and Nairobi [Kenya]

QIF brings to you “Birds of Paradise”- a collection of quilts received in response to the annual challenge organised by The Square Inch, India’s first Quilting studio based in Chennai.

A bundle of eight fabrics were given to over 170 registrants and the challenge was to make an art quilt representing the theme “Birds of Paradise” with at least 50% of the surface area being created with the given fabrics.  The completed size of the art quilt was to be 20”x20”.  105 completed entries have been juried into the show.

Inspired by the vibrant beauty and symbolic freedom of both the avian and floral ‘Birds of Paradise,’ this exhibition showcases a diverse range of artistic interpretations. While many artists celebrate exuberance and joy, others delve into darker undercurrents. Expect a visually captivating exhibition showcasing a range of artistic excellence that will leave you awestruck.”

Along with this, we are exhibiting a collection of ONE BLOCK WONDER [OBW] quilts for the first time in India.    One Block Wonder quilts are a captivating form of textile art. Created from a single piece of fabric, they involve meticulously cutting and rearranging shapes to unveil a hidden, often kaleidoscopic pattern. The surprising and unpredictable results showcase the versatility and creativity of quilting, transforming a single fabric into a stunning and unique work of art

Quilt India Foundation is committed to promote quilting as an art form and looks forward to taking this exhibit to other art loving communities pan-India.
