Dr. Mary Thomas, a professor of English, today launched her debut novel in the city. Titled, The Doubter, The Saint and A Purple Warbler, this book is a personal memoir and testimony to her faith. It is a novel that includes the intertwining of history, fiction and cultural heritage of the Kerala Syrian Christians.
The book, The Doubter, The Saint and a Purple Warbler, was released by the Bishop of CSI Madras Diocese, Rt. Reverend A. Paul Francis Ravichandran and the first copy of the book was received by Colonel David Devasahayam, an eminent industrialist heading the Radiant Group of Companies and an exemplary philanthropist.
The book is the Voice of Hope to the oppressed, the downtrodden, those persecuted for their faith. It is a testimony of faith. It is a book of hope to millions in this fallen world blinded by its garish distractions.
This book, in all its simplicity and purity, in its humble way, talks of the wondrous ways of faith in the Truth, The Way and the Life. It sings from the heart of the purple warblers, the wonders untold that calls us each day from the darkness of this world of mammon into His Marvelous Light.
The author sees her life as a gift of Grace, and she traverses the journey of Saint Thomas, who doubted the Resurrection of the Lord. But, when he saw the Lord, he believed with all his heart and soul in His Master’s redeeming Grace. He travelled far away from home to preach the Word imperishable!
This book is an epitome of childlike simplicity and purity of a beautiful purple warbler who has the heart of a believer.
