Chennai, Tamil Nadu, 2025: Madha Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI) has proudly announced the installation of the advanced Acuson Origin ultrasound system powered by artificial intelligence at its facility, marking it as the first medical institution in South India to adopt this innovative technology. The Acuson Origin by Siemens Healthineers enables the generation of high-quality ultrasound images of the heart, seamlessly supporting both transthoracic (from outside the chest) and transesophageal (from inside the esophagus) echocardiography procedures. This introduction reduces the dependence on standard electrocardiograms (ECG) during cardiac imaging, enhancing the overall experience and comfort of patients.
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), are the leading cause of mortality in India. According to the World Health Organization, NCDs accounted for 63% of all fatalities in India in 2016, with CVDs representing 27% of these deaths. Although CVD is a widespread public health issue, challenges persist regarding access to timely detection and treatment across the country.
Highlighting this milestone, Dr. J. RAGHAV, MANAGING DIRECTOR, Madha Medical College, remarked, “Our core mission is to deliver world‑class healthcare that is accessible and affordable for everyone.
This advanced AI‑enabled technology further strengthens our commitment, empowering our team to diagnose and treat cardiovascular conditions with unmatched precision and speed. Our
students will have the opportunity to learn about and experience next‑generation healthcare technology that aims to improve treatment outcomes for patients. We are grateful for the support received from stakeholders in making this state‑of‑the‑art system available to our patients.”
Madha Medical College transcends traditional medical education, employing innovative teaching methods and fostering an environment that enables future healthcare leaders to thrive. With decades of collective expertise in healthcare and education, the faculty ensures that the institution remains at the forefront of medical training and research, pushing boundaries and driving progress.
Commenting on this significant deployment, Sanjay David, Head of Ultrasound – Zone ASEAN & India at Siemens Healthcare Private
Limited, said, “At Siemens Healthineers, we are on a journey to positively impact lives through our innovative healthcare solutions. The introduction of the Acuson Origin at Madha Medical College marks a significant step forward in empowering both patients and clinicians. By enhancing the diagnosis and management of complex cardiac conditions, this technology helps elevate the standard of cardiovascular care across South India.”
The Acuson Origin, powered by artificial intelligence, is transforming cardiovascular imaging through its real-time cardiac view recognition capability. This first-of-its-kind technology enhances diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes with advanced ultrasound features such as 2D and 4D Hearts AI, enabling automated contouring and quantification of all four cardiac chambers, without the need for an electrocardiogram (ECG). Purpose-built for comprehensive cardiovascular care, the system seamlessly supports diagnostic, structural heart, vascular, electrophysiological, and pediatrics
procedures, offering an integrated solution that advances the quality of patient care.
