Seeing The Walkaroo Vision

Coimbatore, 6 June, 2022: In an ambitious community outreach programme, Walkaroo Foundation recently organized free cataract surgeries and treatment of other eye-related issues at a camp attended by 479 disadvantaged people from villages in and around Malumichampatti. The free eye camp is another milestone crossed by the foundation in its journey towards bringing the benefits of modern health care to weaker sections of society.

Walkaroo Foundation, the dedicated CSR arm of Walkaroo Group of Companies, has for long been engaged in a selfless drive for promoting a more equitable society. “This eye camp is a significant initiative that reflects our belief that the future belongs to all of us, and not to some of us,” said the Group’s Managing Director, Mr. V. Noushad. “We wanted to make advanced medical treatment available to people who cannot afford it and we are happy that to a certain degree, we have been able to get closer to our goals,” he added.

Daily wagers, farmers, industrial laborers and the aged belonging to the lower economic stratum from villages such as Arisi palayam, Nachipalayam, Malumichampatti, Chettipalayam, Okkilipalayam, Bodipalayam, Seerapalayam, Mache Goundampalayam, Madukkarai, J.J Nagar, and Anbu Nagar, converged at the camp that was organized in partnership with Aravind Eye Hospital.

What capped the remarkable outcomes of the programme was the Walkaroo team that walked the extra mile to take 84 people from the camp to the Aravind Eye Hospital for free cataract surgery.  The patients were also provided free accommodation and food, and were given free transportation back home, escorted by Walkaroo volunteers.

The entire camp was conducted in adherence with the covid protocols in vogue and a web based interface for registration was specially created by Walkaroo Information Technologyteam to always ensure physical distancing.
