Stalwarts of Ayurveda and Vedic Medicine felicitated at the first Vamsha Vaidhya Awards in Chennai

Vamsha Vaidhya Awards, organised by Shree Ayurvedic was to reward the efforts of Vaidhyas who have nurtured ancient knowledge despite many obstacles through generations. The prestigious awards will create awareness among the public about Ayurveda as a blend of preventive medicine for lifestyle disorders and curative time-tested remedies for life-threatening diseases.

Vamsha Vaidhya Awards was graced by Dr Sudha Seshayyan, Vice-Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University. She awarded the nominees the Vamsha Shree, Vamsha Ratna and Bhaisajya Vibhushan Awards selected by an illustrious jury.

Awards were distributed under 7 categories: Vamsha Shree, Vamsha Ratna, Bhaisajya Vibhushan, Vamsha Vibhushan, Bhaisajya Bhushan, Vamsha Bhushan and Vamshodaya. A jury of eminent personalities like Dr Sudha Seshayyan Vice-Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University;Dr Jayanth Deopujary – Chairperson, NCISM; Dr Mukul Patel – Vice Chancellor of the Gujarat Ayurved University; Dr. Mamtha Naveen, Principal, SDM College of Ayurveda, Udupi; Dr Prasanna Narasimha Rao – Principal, SDM College of Ayurveda, Hassan among others selected and distributed the prestigious awards. 

The Vamsha Shree Awards were won by Dr Ganjam Krishna Prasad, Dr Ganjam Gayatri Devi and Dr P.Jayaprakash Narayanan. The Vamsha Ratna Awards were conferred on Dr E.T. Yadunarayanan Mooss M.D and Dr E.T. Krishnan Mooss. Ranjit Anand Puranik from Dhootpapeshwar, Dr. P M Varier, Dr Karthik Pandit and T.R. Sasi Varier received the Bhaisajya Vibhushan Awards.

The awards were presented by the Chief guest, Ace Director RV Udayakumar to the deserving nominees amidst applause. He congratulated the winners and said that Indians are embracing traditional wisdom and medical systems like Ayurveda and Siddha. He mentioned that the Government of India established AYUSH ministry, which is promoting and providing the optimal development and propagation of AYUSH Healthcare systems. He added that the Ayurvedic Healthcare ecosystem has also progressed from a niche activity accessible to very few to a rapidly growing alternate medicine stream that provided world-class solutions to ailments and diseases. 

Speaking at the event, the guest of honour Dr Sudha Seshayyan praised the winners and appreciated the idea behind the Vamsha Vaidhya Awards. She said that due to lack of motivation and resources, numerous Vedic-practicingfamilies have forgotten their legacy and turned to other lucrative professions. Awards like these recognize the effort and constant discipline of Vedic medicine practitioners who for centuries have strived to provide world-class health care and expand the Vedic healthcare ecosystem. Also, she especially welcomed the unveiling of the website ayurworldforum.com that hosts the e-wall of fame with the names of stalwarts and veterans of Ayurveda etched in the sands of time, which will make a huge impact and give a boost to the practitioners.

Dr Jayashree Desikacharulu, Chairperson, Shree Ayurvedic and fifth generation practitioner from the illustrious family of Vaidyaratna Pandit D. Gopalacharulu, ably assisted by her two sons Dr. D Sri Krishna and Sri D Sriranga, thanked the guests and illustrated the need for such an initiative. Her focus was the 3Cs

1. Connect – To introduce a platform to connect all arms of ayurveda under one umbrella, 

2. Collaborate – with Vaidhyas to bring easy access to people who need medical aid,

3. Counsel – Encourage youngsters and others to take up vedic science to study, research, and succeed as entrepreneurs.

She also appealed to the Government of India:

• To introduce some basic inputs on the fundamental principles of Ayurveda in the school curriculum across the country.

• To consider the immense contribution made by Pandit D Gopalacharulu as worthy of the highest civilian award conferred by the Nation, namely the Bharat Ratna!

She further explained that it’s imperative to spread the word that Ayurveda offers preventive healthcare through a natural lifestyle and holistic solutions to treating diseases with time-tested remedies and qualified doctors.
