Sundaram Finance Mylapore Festival 2025 begins with exciting shows

The 21st Edition of the popular Sundaram Finance Mylapore Festival 2025 began with the early morning Kutcheri at the Sri Kapali Temple presented by disciples of Smt. Meenakshi Sreenivasan. Maintaining perfect rhythm and harmony, they regaled the crowd that had gathered to hear them at the temple.

The festival then shifted to colourful performances in the open-air main stage at Sannidhi Street quadrangle, comprising of music and a dance drama, against the backdrop of the multi-pillared mantap of the temple and the gopuram in the background

It began with Thiruvanmiyur D Rajesh and party’s Nagaswaram artistes setting the tone for the evening. This was followed by a choral music concert by the Saraswathi Vidyalaya, Vadapalani. They performed a series of songs to huge applause from the gathered crowds.

The last performance was a dance drama. The Rukminidevi Natyakshetra Foundation presented the dance drama ‘Bharathiyum Bharathamum’ at 6:30 PM. Directed by Premnath, the production was inspired by the writings of Mahakavi Bharathiyar and featured a combination of Bharatanatyam and storytelling. This was a beautiful performance with the big crowd applauding the performers at the end.

As part of the festival, Sundaram Finance has been crusading the cause of “Say No to Plastic Bags”. For the 13th consecutive year, around 10,000 cloth bags will be given to residents in exchange for plastic bags. Ruva Foundation, a Bengaluru-based NGO, helped with the distribution of these bags while educating the public on the ill-effects of plastic on the environment. Sundaram Finance also conducts a “Keep Mylapore Clean” campaign by educating the public on hygiene and sanitation.
